Formal private home seeks a personal chef with knowledge of a broad range of cuisines, particularly Mediterranean and Southeast Asian, with a focus on seasonal menus using produce from employer's gardens, greenmarkets, and organic suppliers. The chef will be one of two full-time chefs working out of the employer’s residences in NY, CT, and the Caribbean.
Working days would be Tuesday-Saturday in CT and NY, depending on the employer's needs. Flexibility for travel to employer's Caribbean residence is required for 1-2 weeks at a time, including weekends, approximately 6-8 times per year. Housing is provided at the CT and Caribbean residences.
The chef must be willing to follow recipes and execute daily menus provided by the employer, as well as generate suggested menus based on the employer's preferences. The chef will be responsible for grocery shopping, procuring of specialty items, and refrigerator/pantry organization. Serving is not expected of the chef, but tight coordination and expediting of meal service with staff servers is required.
Extensive culinary training, sustained work experience in a formal private home, and excellent references are essential, as are professionalism, a positive attitude, refined self-presentation, strong organizational skills, and dedication to maintaining a clean kitchen.
Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office) required for entry of weekly menus and new recipes into database. The chef is responsible for petty cash and prompt submission of receipts.
