Overview

A loving family in McLean, Virginia, is seeking a calm, dependable, and experienced overnight newborn care specialist to provide care for their son, who is due in early December 2026. This is a temporary position lasting 12–16 weeks. The primary focus of this role is overnight care for their newborn and helping the family get the baby onto a healthy, predictable sleep and feeding schedule. They are looking for someone with real newborn experience who brings a quiet, steady, and reassuring presence through the night. The schedule is 10:00 pm to 7:00 am, five to seven nights per week. The shift does not overlap with their daytime NCS, so you will stay in sync by leaving written notes and texting, keeping the baby's routine consistent around the clock. Local candidates are preferred; however, live-in accommodations may be provided for the right candidate.

Responsibilities

Overnight Newborn Care & Feeding

  • Full overnight care for the newborn, including feeding, burping, diapering, and soothing
  • Bottle preparation and overnight feedings, and supporting feeding routines as directed by the parents
  • Following safe sleep practices at all times
  • Keeping a detailed overnight log of feedings, diapers, and sleep
  • Leaving clear written notes or texting updates for the parents and the daytime nanny at the end of each shift

Sleep & Schedule Support

  • Helping the baby gradually establish a healthy, predictable sleep and feeding schedule
  • Partnering with the parents on their goals and preferred approach to sleep
  • Sharing guidance and practical tips with the parents as the baby's routine develops
  • Coordinating with the daytime nanny through notes and texts so the schedule is followed day and night consistently

Baby-Related Household Tasks

This role is focused only on the baby. Household tasks are limited to the baby's own needs:

  • Cleaning and sterilizing bottles and feeding supplies
  • Preparing bottles and supplies for the next day's feedings
  • Baby laundry: washing, folding, and putting away the baby's clothing, bedding, and burp cloths
  • Keeping the nursery and changing station tidy and restocked

Qualifications

  • A background as a Newborn Care Specialist or doula (strongly preferred)
  • Experience helping families establish newborn sleep and feeding schedules
  • A solid understanding of newborn feeding, sleep, and development
  • A kind, considerate, and quiet presence at night, plus clear, reliable written communication with a daytime nanny you won't overlap with
  • Consistency and reliability, arriving on time and staying alert through every shift
  • Dependable, trustworthy, and kind

Requirements

  • In-home experience caring for newborns and infants, including overnight care
  • Fluent in English; Spanish is welcome but not required
  • A reliable personal vehicle, preferred
  • Excellent references
  • Available to start on or around December 6, 2026
  • Up-to-date vaccinations, including MMR, DTaP, Tdap, Varicella, Hib, seasonal influenza, and COVID-19
  • Pet-friendly. The family has 3 small dogs
  • Legal to work in the U.S.

Salary and Benefits

The family is offering $40 to $55/hr based on experience. The position will start around 12/6/2026 for 12 to 16 weeks. If living in, accommodations consist of your own bed and bath.
