Executive Housekeeper

Overview

An experienced, live-out, proactive and highly organised executive housekeeper is sought to support a busy private family across two primary residences in Orange County, California. The family maintains two properties in Orange County: a primary residence in Costa Mesa and a weekend home in Laguna Niguel. They also own additional properties on the East Coast, including homes in Nantucket and Virginia, which may present opportunities for broader property oversight as the role develops.

This is a hands-on position combining executive-level household organisation with practical housekeeping, laundry, wardrobe care and property maintenance coordination. Approximately 60–75% of the role will focus on maintaining and organising the homes, with the remaining time dedicated to contractor coordination, household projects, errands and general property oversight.

The schedule will be 40 hours guaranteed Monday through Friday, with flexibility required to accommodate contractor visits, household needs and occasional childcare support (the family have a dedicated nanny but there may be occasions when she is sick/ on vacation etc.).

The typical working pattern will involve:

    • Costa Mesa: The primary focus during the working week, including household upkeep, laundry, organisation and maintenance coordination. The main residence is approximately 4,200 square feet, with four bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms. An additional 1,000-square-foot guest area above the garage is used when visitors stay.
    • Laguna Niguel: Preparation ahead of the family's arrival on Friday, followed by weekend reset tasks, including changing bed linen, laundering pool towels, managing dishes, putting out rubbish on Sunday evening, and ensuring the property is ready for the following visit. The home is approximately 8,600 square feet and has a pool.

The family currently employs professional cleaners at each property every other week. The successful candidate will work alongside these teams, maintaining day-to-day standards and arranging additional cleaning support when needed rather than being solely responsible for deep cleaning. Candidates should ideally be based within a reasonable commuting distance of Orange County.

Responsibilities

Housekeeping and Household Organisation

    • Maintain consistently high standards of cleanliness, order and organisation across both Orange County residences.
    • Carry out daily tidying, vacuuming, bathroom upkeep, surface cleaning and other light-to-moderate housekeeping tasks as required.
    • Manage household laundry, including washing, drying, ironing, steaming, folding and putting away clothing and linens.
    • Demonstrate a strong understanding of fabrics and materials, including the appropriate care of delicate garments, quality clothing, cashmere, wool, silk and other fine textiles.
    • Maintain organised wardrobes, linen cupboards, storage areas and household supplies.
    • Change bed linen, prepare bedrooms and ensure the Laguna Niguel property is ready for the family's arrival each weekend.
    • Manage pool towels, weekend laundry, dishes, rubbish and general household resets at the Laguna Niguel residence.
    • Keep household inventory organised and ensure essential supplies are replenished.
    • Coordinate with the existing cleaning teams and monitor the quality and consistency of their work.

Property and Contractor Management

    • Take ownership of routine household maintenance across both properties, including HVAC servicing, air filters, plumbing, electrical work, pool-related requirements and general upkeep.
    • Identify maintenance issues proactively and arrange appropriate contractors before small problems become larger ones.
    • Research service providers, obtain and compare quotations, assess options and make considered recommendations to the family.
    • Schedule contractor visits, provide access, supervise work on site and follow up to ensure that jobs are completed properly.
    • Exercise sound judgement when assessing quality, value for money, urgency and the need for specialist expertise.
    • Maintain records of ongoing maintenance, outstanding jobs, warranties and relevant contractor information.
    • Coordinate household projects and ensure that work is completed to the family's expectations and within agreed budgets.
    • Take responsibility for following matters through to completion, communicating progress and raising concerns appropriately.

Household Administration and Errands

    • Run occasional household errands, including returns, dry cleaning, collections and deliveries.
    • Arrange grocery orders and household supplies, including stocking the refrigerator and preparing the home ahead of the family's arrival.
    • Help coordinate occasional family gatherings or dinners, including ensuring the home is prepared and any necessary support is arranged.
    • Keep track of household priorities, upcoming appointments, maintenance schedules and outstanding tasks.
    • Provide clear, concise updates to the family and relevant household team members.

Family and Team Support

    • Work collaboratively with the family's existing nanny and other household contacts to ensure the household operates smoothly.
    • Offer occasional backup childcare or assistance with the children's logistics when needed and agreed in advance.
    • Build a strong working relationship with Kori, learning the family's preferences, standards and approach to household management.
    • Be receptive to feedback, ask sensible questions when clarification is needed and develop a clear understanding of when to act independently and when to seek approval.
    • The family has two children aged 6 and 8 years. Occasional babysitting or assistance with children's logistics would be welcomed but is not the primary focus of the position.

Qualifications

    • Previous experience as an Executive Housekeeper, Senior Housekeeper or in a comparable private household role.
    • Demonstrable experience maintaining high standards across a substantial private residence, ideally with responsibility for multiple properties.
    • Strong practical housekeeping skills, including laundry, ironing, wardrobe organisation, bed making and the care of quality garments and delicate fabrics.
    • Experience coordinating contractors, overseeing household maintenance and managing ongoing property requirements.
    • Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to balance routine tasks alongside changing priorities and unexpected issues.
    • Excellent communication skills and the confidence to liaise professionally with contractors, service providers and household staff.
    • A practical understanding of household maintenance, including the ability to identify issues and engage the appropriate specialists.
    • A valid driving licence and the ability to travel between the family's Orange County properties.
    • A flexible, hands-on approach and a genuine willingness to take ownership of both routine household responsibilities and more complex projects.

Formal qualifications are less important than relevant experience, practical capability, sound judgement and a proven track record of managing a household effectively.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will be proactive, dependable, discreet and naturally organised, with the judgement to operate independently while remaining closely aligned with the family's preferences.

The family is looking for someone who combines initiative with a collaborative and measured approach. Previous experience has highlighted the importance of finding the right balance between taking ownership and understanding how the family wants things done.
The successful candidate will:

    • Be genuinely proactive: Anticipate household needs, identify issues independently and follow tasks through to completion without requiring repeated reminders.
    • Demonstrate sound judgement and common sense: Recognise what needs attention, distinguish between routine decisions and matters requiring approval, and make sensible recommendations.
    • Be thorough and reliable: Maintain high standards in everyday housekeeping and ensure that important details are not overlooked.
    • Know how to prioritise: Balance recurring household tasks with contractor visits, maintenance issues and unexpected requests.
    • Communicate openly and appropriately: Keep the family informed, provide timely updates, flag problems early and ask questions when necessary.
    • Be collaborative and adaptable: Work comfortably within an informal, close-knit household, building positive relationships with the principals, the nanny and other relevant contacts.
    • Be receptive to feedback: Take the time to understand established systems, household preferences and individual working styles, adjusting their approach accordingly.
    • Exercise discretion and integrity: Respect the family's privacy, property and personal preferences, and handle household matters confidentially.
    • Be practical and solutions-oriented: Research options, compare quotations, consider value for money and offer well-reasoned recommendations rather than simply presenting problems.
    • Be comfortable with hands-on work: Enjoy the practical side of household management rather than viewing housekeeping as secondary to administrative or project-based responsibilities.

A key part of the role will be developing a strong working relationship with the parents and becoming well calibrated to the family's expectations. The family values a relaxed, respectful and collaborative working environment and wants someone who can become a trusted, dependable presence in the household without requiring constant supervision.

There may be opportunities for the position to expand over time to include greater oversight of the family's additional properties in Nantucket and Virginia, depending on the candidate's capabilities and interests.

Salary and Benefits

    • Salary: $120,000 per annum, depending on experience and suitability.
    • Schedule: Monday–Friday, approximately 40 hours per week, guaranteed.
    • Paid time off: Two weeks of paid vacation annually.
    • Healthcare: A healthcare stipend of approximately $300 per month may be offered.
    • Working environment: A flexible, informal and collaborative private household that values trust, initiative, reliability and long-term working relationships.
    • Career development: Potential to take on broader property oversight and additional responsibilities as the family's needs evolve.

The family is open to discussing the benefits package with the right candidate, with the aim of establishing a competitive and mutually beneficial long-term arrangement.
