Overview

A warm family based in Claremont, California, are looking for an experienced, caring, and dependable live-out nanny to care for their 1.5-year-old son. The role will start in mid-November and the schedule will be Monday through Friday from 7:30am through 6pm (more often than not). The family will guarantee 40 hours per week, and flexiblity to stay later or work additional hours from time to time would be greatly appreciated. The family travel frequently both domestically and internationally but do not require the candidate to join them on every trip, though the nanny will continue to be paid when they are out of town (this may occur several weeks per year). English is spoken in the home, along with Dutch, German, and Italian. Spanish-speaking candidates are especially welcome as this is a language the family would like to teach their son.

The ideal nanny will bring a positive, naturally uplifting energy to the home. The family are looking for someone who is happy, warm, attentive, and confident with toddlers, while also being comfortable allowing a child to explore and develop independence.

Responsibilities

The primary responsibility is providing attentive, engaging, and developmentally appropriate care for the family's son.

Responsibilities include:

  • Providing attentive and loving care throughout the day
  • Creating a safe, stimulating, and age-appropriate environment
  • Planning and participating in age-appropriate activities, outdoor play, reading, and outings
  • Preparing simple meals and snacks for the child
  • Supporting the child's daily routines, including meals, naps, and activities
  • Encouraging age-appropriate independence while maintaining appropriate safety
  • Using sound judgment and common sense when handling everyday toddler situations
  • Keeping the child's areas, toys, clothing, and belongings organized
  • Children's laundry and light household tasks related to the child
  • Driving the child to activities, appointments, classes, or outings as needed
  • Communicating openly with the parents about the child's day, development, and any concerns
  • Occasionally supporting the family during domestic or international travel

Qualifications

The right person will be dependable, warm, proactive, and genuinely enjoy spending their days with a curious and active toddler.

  • Previous professional experience caring for infants and/or toddlers
  • Experience caring for a child around 1–2 years old is strongly preferred
  • Spanish-speaking candidates are preferred, although this is not required
  • A warm, cheerful, and naturally positive personality
  • Strong common sense and good judgment
  • Comfortable balancing safety with age-appropriate independence
  • Reliable, punctual, organized, and communicative
  • Comfortable working independently and becoming a trusted member of the household
  • Formal nanny training or early-childhood education is a plus, but hands-on childcare experience is highly valued
  • Comfortable working with a multicultural/ multilingual family

The family do not have a rigid personality profile or particular parenting philosophy they expect a nanny to follow. They are looking for someone who brings a balanced, practical approach to childcare and works collaboratively with the parents.

Requirements

  • Must have reliable transportation and be a confident, safe driver — driving is an essential part of the position
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record
  • Must be comfortable driving the child when required
  • Must be comfortable working Monday–Friday with some flexibility for later days and additional hours
  • Must be comfortable with occasional domestic and international family travel
  • Must be willing to sign a confidentiality/NDA agreement and employment contract
  • Must be comfortable with a formal payroll employment arrangement
  • Must provide professional references
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States
  • Must be comfortable around cats; the family has one tabby cat

Salary and Benefits

  • $40/hour, with flexibility for an exceptional candidate
  • $200/month healthcare stipend
  • Overnight rate when traveling (on top of regular rate + any accrued overtime)
  • Approximately 7 weeks of PTO/travel-related paid time away per year, structured around family travel and agreed vacation periods
  • 10 days of personal PTO, including 5 days typically allocated around the Christmas period, plus 1 additional week that can be taken at the nanny's choosing
  • Overtime available/paid when applicable
  • When the family travels without the nanny, the nanny will continue to be paid for agreed scheduled periods
