A warm, private family in Lower Manhattan is seeking an experienced, discreet, and highly capable Housekeeper/Cook to take full ownership of their home's day-to-day operations. This is more than routine housekeeping. The family wants a true professional who anticipates what a home needs before being asked, elevates its overall standard, and keeps everything organized, stocked, and running smoothly without close supervision. The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, and takes pride in keeping a home exceptionally clean, orderly, and well-maintained.

The family also has a PA/Nanny, so this role is primarily focused on housekeeping and simple family cooking, with limited child-related responsibilities.

The ideal person is a natural self-starter who notices the small things, takes initiative, works independently, and is genuinely discreet and respectful of the family's privacy. This is a stable, long-term opportunity with a respectful family, for someone who takes real pride in making a home function beautifully.

The standard schedule is:
Mon, Tue, Wed, Friday, 10am–6:30 PM.
Thu: 10am-7pm

Responsibilities

Include, but are not limited to:

Housekeeping

• All aspects of daily housekeeping for a three-bedroom, three-bathroom home.
• Consistently maintain the home’s cleanliness 
• Dust, vacuum, mop, clean bathrooms and kitchen, empty trash, and maintain all living areas.
• Manage extensive laundry, including washing, drying, folding, organizing, and putting away clothing and household linens.
• Properly care for fine fabrics and clothing.
• Iron shirts and other appropriate garments.
• Coordinate couture and delicate items with the family's preferred dry cleaner.
• Maintain household organization and ensure the home is always tidy and well presented.
• Keep inventory of cleaning supplies and pantry items 
• Assist with grocery shopping and household errands as needed.

Errands and travel turnaround

• Grocery shopping and household errands as needed
• Travel turnaround: preparing and closing down the home when the family travels, deep clean throughout, launder all linens, clear the fridge of perishables, remove all trash, and close down the home. Before their return: reopen the home, fresh linens on all beds, reset all bathrooms and the kitchen, complete a full grocery restock and fill the fridge, and add welcome touches so the family returns to a clean, stocked home

Cooking

• Prepare simple, healthy family dinners – Preferred preparation consists of protein, vegetable, and starch/carbohydrate. 
• The family is looking for balanced, home-style meals rather than elaborate or plated cuisine.
• Keep the kitchen clean and organized after meal preparation.

Family Assistance

• Assist with school pick-up of one child in the afternoons, either escorting her home or to ballet. 
• Provide general support to ensure the household runs smoothly.

The family is offering $50+/hr DOE, guaranteed hours, a negotiable health stipend, 4 consecutive paid weeks off in the summer, and 6 paid days off at Christmas.
