Overview

First-time parents based in King’s Cross are seeking a highly experienced Maternity Nurse/Newborn Care Specialist to support their family following the arrival of their baby, due on 16 February 2027. The booking is expected to last 12 weeks and will provide 24-hour support, six days per week.

The specialist will take responsibility for all aspects of newborn care while helping the parents feel confident and well supported during the early weeks. They will offer knowledgeable, practical guidance on feeding, sleeping, settling and newborn development, tailoring their approach to the baby’s individual needs and the parents’ preferences. Extensive experience supporting breastfeeding mothers is particularly important.

The family would like someone warm, calm, trustworthy and highly professional, with a gentle, caring manner. The ideal candidate will be confident and proactive when guidance is needed, while remaining respectful of the family’s space and parenting choices. They should be organised, reliable and personable without being overly talkative.

There are no other household staff or pets in the home. The specialist will be provided with a private bedroom and bathroom.

Responsibilities

  • Providing comprehensive day and night care for the newborn
  • Supporting the mother with breastfeeding and bottle feeding
  • Advising and reassuring the parents as they adjust to caring for their first baby
  • Establishing age-appropriate feeding and sleeping routines
  • Using appropriate settling techniques
  • Monitoring the baby’s development and general wellbeing
  • Sterilising bottles and equipment
  • Keeping the nursery and baby’s belongings clean and organised
  • Supporting the mother during her postnatal recovery
  • Maintaining clear and discreet communication with the parents

Qualifications

  • Recognised maternity nurse or newborn care qualification
  • Paediatric first-aid certification
  • Up-to-date DBS check
  • Additional breastfeeding or lactation-support training would be advantageous

Requirements

  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience as a career maternity nurse
  • Extensive experience supporting breastfeeding mothers
  • Strong knowledge of newborn feeding, sleep, settling and development
  • A calm, caring and reassuring manner
  • Excellent organisation, reliability and discretion
  • Excellent references from live-in newborn placements
  • Legal right to work in the UK

Salary and Benefits

  • 24-hour cover, six days per week
  • £400+ per day
