Overview

A warm family in North Williamsburg, Brooklyn is seeking a Full-Time Japanese-Speaking Family Assistant/Infant Nanny to care for their young son, who was born in June.

The nanny’s primary responsibility for approximately half of the week will be providing attentive, engaging, and developmentally appropriate care for their son. The family would love someone who can take him to the park, classes, and other neighborhood activities while naturally speaking Japanese with him throughout the day. The nanny must also speak English so they can communicate easily with the mother. The family is specifically seeking a native Japanese speaker.

During the hours when the nanny is not responsible for the child, they will transition into a Family Assistant role and help keep the household organized and running smoothly. Responsibilities may include grocery shopping, errands, household organization, family laundry, meal preparation, inventory management, scheduling appointments and vendors, returns, and other day-to-day household needs.

No travel is required. No pets in the home. 

Schedule: Monday–Friday; 10:00 am to 6:00 pm

Responsibilities

Childcare

  • Provide attentive, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate care for one infant
  • Engage in age-appropriate play, reading, music, sensory activities, and developmental activities
  • Speak Japanese naturally throughout the day to encourage language exposure and development
  • Plan neighborhood activities, classes, walks, park visits, and other age-appropriate outings
  • Support the child’s evolving feeding, nap, and daily routines
  • Prepare bottles, meals, and snacks for the child as age appropriate
  • Maintain and organize the child’s nursery, clothing, toys, books, and supplies
  • Handle the child’s laundry and keep child-related areas tidy and organized
  • Research age-appropriate activities, classes, and developmental opportunities
  • Maintain a safe, engaging, and positive environment
  • Communicate clearly with the parents regarding the child’s day, schedule, development, and needs

Family Assistant / Household Support

During non-childcare hours, responsibilities will include:

  • Grocery shopping and household errands
  • Family laundry, including washing, folding, and putting away clothing
  • Light meal preparation for the parents and eventually the child
  • Managing returns, exchanges, packages, and deliveries
  • Being available to let vendors or service providers into the home and overseeing appointments as needed
  • Providing additional reasonable Family Assistant support as needs evolve

Qualifications

  • Native Japanese speaker
  • English-speaking with the ability to communicate comfortably with parents
  • Warm, nurturing, patient, and engaging
  • Genuinely enjoys spending time with infants and young children
  • Dependable, responsible, and highly organized
  • Proactive and comfortable identifying what needs to be done during Family Assistant hours
  • Comfortable balancing childcare and household responsibilities
  • Comfortable taking the child on neighborhood outings and activities
  • Able to work independently while following the parents’ preferences
  • Comfortable working collaboratively with hands-on parents
  • Flexible and willing to assist with changing household needs

Requirements

  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
  • CPR and First Aid certified
  • Comfortable being paid legally as a W-2 employee
  • Able to begin ASAP
  • No travel required
  • Up to date on childhood related vaccinations

Salary and Benefits

  • Compensation: $40/hour
  • Guaranteed Hours: 40 hours per week
  • W-2 employment through payroll
  • Monday–Friday schedule
  • 2 weeks PTO
  • 3–5 sick days 
  • Paid holidays(not required to work holidays) 
  • No health stipend offered
