Overview

A first-time mother in New York is seeking an experienced, discreet, and highly professional Newborn Care Specialist to provide overnight support for her three-week-old baby boy. The mother has been managing independently since the birth and is now looking for reliable overnight support several nights per week, primarily to allow her to rest and recharge.

The family is seeking approximately three nights of support per week for an initial four-week period, starting as soon as possible. There is flexibility around both the specific nights and exact overnight hours.

The ideal candidate will be calm, unobtrusive, and emotionally intelligent, with the ability to provide excellent newborn care while respecting the mother’s privacy and space. Given the quiet and intimate nature of the household, the successful candidate should be discreet and comfortable working independently overnight, while offering thoughtful guidance and reassurance when needed.

The baby is currently exclusively breastfed and has recently been successfully introduced to a bottle. The mother is open to continuing to breastfeed overnight, with the NCS taking over all care following feeds, or potentially providing expressed breast milk for overnight bottle feeds.

Responsibilities

  • Provide attentive and safe overnight care for the newborn
  • Respond to the baby’s needs throughout the night
  • Support overnight feeding according to the mother’s preferences
  • Take responsibility for burping, changing, settling, and returning the baby to sleep following feeds
  • Clean and sterilize bottles and feeding equipment used during the shift
  • Maintain a safe and appropriate newborn sleep environment
  • Keep the mother informed of feeds, sleep, and any relevant observations overnight
  • Offer newborn guidance and reassurance when requested while respecting the mother’s established preferences and routines

Qualifications

  • Extensive professional newborn care experience
  • Minimum of 5 years experience working as a Newborn Care Specialist
  • Excellent recent and verifiable references
  • Strong knowledge of newborn feeding, sleep, soothing, and development
  • Must have Up-to-date Infant CPR and First Aid certification

Requirements

  • Legally able to work in the United States
  • Calm, discreet, and highly professional
  • Comfortable working independently overnight
  • Emotionally intelligent and able to read the room
  • Confident supporting a first-time mother
  • Available to begin as soon as possible

Salary and Benefits

  • $55–$65 per hour, depending on experience
