Overview

A warm, welcoming family based in Montclair, NJ, is seeking a seasoned Newborn Care Specialist to care for their newborn, expected January 27th, although the family anticipates the possibility of an earlier arrival. The ideal candidate will begin around the baby's arrival (possibly a few weeks earlier) and work through mid-June, providing consistent overnight support during the newborn's first 5 months. The first 3-4 months of the placement will be based out of the family’s home in Montclair, NJ, but the candidate will then spend the final 1-2 months working out of their London home (Notting Hill). The schedule will remain the same throughout the placement, as follows:

 

Schedule:

  • 12-hour overnight shifts, 7 nights per week
  • Typical schedule will be approximately 6pm–6am or 7pm–7am
  • Private sleeping and bathroom accommodations in both locations

The family is hoping to establish strong sleep habits early, with a goal of having the baby sleep trained by approximately five months. This is their second child.

Responsibilities

  • Provide expert overnight care for the newborn
  • Manage nighttime feeds, diapering, burping, soothing, and settling
  • Establish and maintain healthy newborn sleep and feeding routines
  • Monitor and track feeds, sleep, diapers, and other newborn-related information
  • Support the baby through developmental changes during the first five months
  • Assist with establishing age-appropriate sleep habits and preparing for sleep training
  • Maintain a clean, organized nursery and baby areas
  • Communicate clearly and proactively with the parents regarding the baby's schedule, development, and needs
  • Provide knowledgeable newborn guidance and support to the parents
  • Work collaboratively with the family's daytime nanny and other household staff

Qualifications

  • Extensive professional newborn and infant experience
  • Strong knowledge of newborn feeding, sleep, soothing, and developmental needs
  • Experience establishing healthy sleep routines and supporting sleep training
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Calm, nurturing, patient, and confident demeanor
  • Highly reliable and consistent
  • Comfortable working independently overnight
  • Able to collaborate effectively with parents and other caregivers
  • Dog-friendly
  • International travel experience is a plus

Requirements

  • Must be available for 7 nights per week on a 12-hour overnight schedule for the duration of the contract (5 months)
  • Must be able to commit to the family from approximately mid January through mid June
  • Must have strong, verifiable references
  • Must be comfortable working in a private household and maintaining discretion
  • Must be an excellent communicator and proactive about addressing concerns
  • Must be comfortable with international travel
  • Must be comfortable around dogs
  • Valid CPR/First Aid certification preferred
  • Valid U.S. passport, Green Card, or EAC (U.S./UK dual citizenship is highly desirable but not essential)
