Overview

A warm, welcoming family on the Upper East Side is seeking an experienced Family Assistant/Nanny to join their household on a long-term basis, starting ASAP. This is a unique opportunity for a career professional who enjoys supporting a busy family both behind the scenes and with their three school-aged children (aged 12, 9, and 6).

While childcare is an important part of the position, there is also a real focus on serving as an organized, proactive Family Assistant who helps manage the day-to-day logistics of a busy household and supports the mother in keeping family life running smoothly.

The family employs a full-time housekeeper and driver. They are looking for someone who complements this team and becomes a trusted, long-term member of the household.

The family spends July through August (inclusive) at their Hamptons residence, so candidates should be comfortable spending Monday through Thursday there during this period. The schedule during the summer months will adjust to approximately 7 am–7 pm. The family will cover all transportation costs, provide an overnight stipend, and any additional hours worked will be eligible for overtime. Travel is otherwise minimal for this role.

Schedule:

  • Monday–Friday, 11 am–7 pm
  • During July and August, the candidate will spend Monday through Thursday in Quogue, NY (Hamptons), with a schedule closer to 7 am–7 pm.

Responsibilities

Approximately 70% of the role focuses on family assistance and household management, with 30% dedicated to childcare.

Responsibilities include:

  • Managing day-to-day family logistics and helping keep the household running efficiently, in close coordination with Mom
  • Preparing for the children's school days and after-school activities
  • Organizing children's clothing, closets, school supplies, and seasonal items
  • Ensuring backpacks, uniforms, and activity equipment are ready as needed
  • Ordering groceries and household essentials
  • Keeping household supplies stocked and organized
  • Running family errands, including returns and miscellaneous household tasks
  • Assisting with calendars, schedules, appointments, and activity coordination
  • Helping prepare the household when the family is traveling or away for weekends
  • Providing after-school care and supervision for the three children
  • Caring for the children during school holidays and vacation days
  • Supporting transportation needs as required (driving is primarily needed during the summer months in the Hamptons)
  • Providing meal and snack preparation for the children
  • Assisting with light care for the family's friendly dog, including feeding, occasional walks, and vet appointments as needed

Qualifications

The ideal candidate is an experienced Family Assistant, Household Assistant, or Career Nanny who understands how to support a busy family beyond childcare alone.

They will be:

  • Exceptionally organized with excellent attention to detail
  • Highly proactive while respecting the parents' preferences and routines
  • Able to anticipate needs and reduce the family's mental load
  • A collaborative team player who enjoys working alongside involved parents
  • Warm, engaging, and confident with school-aged children
  • Professional, discreet, dependable, and highly resourceful
  • Interested in building a long-term relationship with one family

The family is seeking someone who naturally takes initiative appropriately, without feeling the need to take over household management or parenting decisions.

Requirements

  • Prior experience working as a Family Assistant, Household Assistant, or professional nanny in a private household
  • Experience supporting busy families with both childcare and household organization
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize independently
  • Valid driver's license preferred (summer driving only)
  • Comfortable working collaboratively with a fully staffed household
  • Comfortable around dogs
  • Seeking a long-term position with one family

Salary and Benefits

  • $55+/hour, depending on experience
  • Industry-standard benefits + healthcare stipend
  • $100 overnight stipend for overnight stays and Hamptons assignments
