Overview

A warm, loving family on the Upper West Side is seeking an experienced, engaging, and dependable part-time nanny/ family assistant to join their household beginning after Labor Day. This is an excellent opportunity for a candidate looking for a long-term position with a kind, appreciative family and a collaborative work environment.

The family has three wonderful daughters, ages 8, 6, and almost 3, and currently employs a beloved full-time nanny who has been with them for 5 years (also placed by BAHS). They are seeking a second caregiver who will work closely with her to ensure the afternoons run smoothly and the children receive consistent, attentive care.

The schedule will typically be Monday through Friday from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm, with some flexibility for the right candidate. The family will guarantee 20 hours per week.

Responsibilities

During the school year, responsibilities will include school pickups, accompanying the children to after-school activities, coordinating schedules with the family's full-time nanny, preparing snacks or simple meals for the children, and creating a warm, engaging environment throughout the afternoon.

During the summer months, when the children attend camp, the guaranteed hours will remain the same, though responsibilities may include additional family assistant duties such as grocery shopping, running errands, organizing household spaces, light household support, and meal preparation as needed.

More generally:

  • Ensuring the safety and well-being of the children at all times
  • Preparing simple snacks and dinner for the girls/ meal planning
  • School pick up/ preparing the girls for bedtime
  • Keeping the children engaged in creative, educationally stimulating activities (both indoors and outdoors)

Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate is proactive, communicative, and genuinely enjoys spending time with children.
  • The girls are bright, kind, and well-behaved, and the family is looking for someone who will actively engage with them, foster their independence, and become a trusted, long-term presence in their lives.
  • A collaborative mindset is essential, as this role will involve regular communication and partnership with the family's full-time nanny.
  • Candidates who enjoy cooking are encouraged to apply - preparing simple, healthy, family-style meals is appreciated, though gourmet experience is not expected (the family values balanced, home-cooked food and is happy to provide recipes or guidance if helpful)

Requirements

  • US passport, Green Card, or EAC
  • Candidates should be reliable, responsible, motivated, and outdoorsy, with the confidence to organize play dates and generally encourage socialization

Salary and Benefits

  • Compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience.
  • Benefits include two weeks of prorated paid time off, paid federal holidays, and a family that is known for being thoughtful and generous, with flexibility and additional time off when schedules permit.
  • The family is hoping to find someone who is looking for a long-term home and who will become an integral part of their children's lives for years to come.
