Overview

Warm and engaged Brooklyn Heights, Brooklyn family seeking a reliable, mature, and proactive part-time nanny to support their three children (5, 9, and 11 years old). This job starts in September. The ideal candidate will be confident caring for both a young child and a tween, comfortable managing busy after-school schedules, and able to provide structure, guidance, and age-appropriate support.

The family is seeking someone who is kind, responsible, punctual, and comfortable setting boundaries and reinforcing good manners and respectful behavior when needed. The schedule is Monday through Friday 3:30-8:30pm.

Responsibilities

  • School pick-ups and after-school care
  • Escort children to extracurricular activities, lessons, playdates, and appointments
  • Navigate public transportation throughout Manhattan
  • Manage afternoon and evening routines
  • Provide age-appropriate engagement and supervision for both children
  • Assist with homework oversight and academic support as needed
  • Encourage independence, responsibility, and good manners
  • Communicate with parents regarding schedules, activities, and any concerns
  • Prepare snacks and simple meals for the children
  • Children's laundry (preferred but not required)
  • Keep children's belongings and common areas organized
  • Coordinate logistics between multiple activities and schedules
  • Support smooth transitions between school, activities, and home

Qualifications

  • Experience with both younger children and older elementary/tween-aged children
  • Background in education, child development, teaching, or early childhood education is highly preferred but not required
  • Comfortable using NYC public transportation and accompanying children throughout the city
  • Highly punctual and dependable
  • Warm, engaging, and confident managing children's behavior in a respectful manner
  • Organized and able to manage multiple schedules and activities
  • Strong communication skills
  • Long-term mindset and interest in becoming an important part of the family's support system

Requirements

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Excellent references from previous childcare positions
  • Vaccinated per family preference
  • Comfortable working in a home with two cats

Salary and Benefits

  • $35–$40+ per hour, depending on experience
  • Guaranteed weekly hours
  • Four weeks of paid vacation/school-break coverage throughout the year
