Overview

Busy but involved parents on the Upper West Side are seeking a nanny/educator for their 2-year-old son.  The usual schedule will be Monday through Friday, 12-7 pm, although they would appreciate some flexibility to allow for changes to the hours (advance notice will be given). The position will start as soon as the right person is found. 

 

The role is designed around the child’s current developmental stage and will evolve year-to-year as needs change. The schedule may shift slightly over time to align with the child’s evolving nap schedule and developmental needs.

Responsibilities

This role focuses on play-based, nursery-style learning, language development, and consistent daily structure, and involves working closely with the parent to align on routines, activities, and developmental goals:

  • Daily play-based, nursery-style learning
  • Support language development through reading, songs, and conversation
  • Plan and prepare age-appropriate activities in advance (sensory play, art, fine motor work, puzzles, pretend play) to support a structured and engaging daily routine
  • Ensure the child is dressed and appropriately groomed after waking from a nap
  • Handle diaper changes and support age-appropriate toileting routines
  • Assist with the child’s meals and snacks as needed, including cleaning up afterward
  • Encourage independence (hand washing, tidying, transitions)
  • Support age-appropriate social development (parallel play at playgrounds and in playrooms)
  • Outdoor play and movement as appropriate
  • Maintain a tidy and organized play and nursery environment, including cleaning up after the child
  • Communicate daily highlights and observations with parents
  • Candidates must be comfortable sharing the home with a friendly dog!

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Education, Psychology, or a related field
  • Experience with children ages 2-3 years
  • Strong understanding of early childhood development
  • Calm, confident, and engaged presence
  • Comfortable blending teaching and caregiving
  • Fluent English speaker
  • Professional, reliable, and discreet

Salary and Benefits
