Overview

A private executive is seeking a highly capable, proactive Family Assistant to support his household in Great Falls, VA. This is a long-term, full-time role focused on managing the home's day-to-day operations, providing support when his 13-year-old son is in residence, and ensuring the household runs smoothly and efficiently.

The home is calm, intellectual, and understated, with a strong emphasis on independence, initiative, and professionalism. Start Date: February (ideal)

Schedule

  • Full-time position
  • Approximately 45 hours per week
  • Early mornings are required on school days due to swim practice
  • The principal travels approximately 3 nights every other week
    • If live-out, the family assistant will be required to stay overnight during travel to care for pets and, at times, the child
  • Son is in residence every other week
  • Summer: child spends approximately 3 consecutive weeks with mother

Responsibilities

Family & Child Support (Every Other Week)

  • Morning support to ensure school readiness and punctual arrival
  • Assisting with early swim practice schedule:
    • Monday/Wednesday/Friday: 6:30–7:30 AM practice, then school
    • Tuesday/Thursday: 5:30 AM practice, return home to get ready, then school drop-off, this portion is ending in the Spring
  • School pick-up as needed
  • Providing structure, encouragement, and light supervision for a bright, introverted 13-year-old
  • Supporting healthy routines, independence, and organization

Household Management

  • Daily oversight and light upkeep of a ~6,000 sq. ft. residence
  • Household laundry for the principal and child
  • Interest in design to help the home reach its full potential
  • Grocery shopping and household inventory management
  • Simple, healthy meal preparation approximately 3x per week 
  • Running errands and managing ad hoc requests
  • Coordinating and supervising household vendors (landscaping, pool, sprinklers, etc.)
  • Proactive organization projects and gradual home improvement initiatives
  • Identifying opportunities for efficiency, decluttering, and long-term improvement

Pet Care

  • Daily care for a friendly 70-lb Golden Doodle (feeding and walking)
  • Basic care for a 13-year-old cat (litter box; indoor/outdoor)
  • Pet care during the principal’s travel

Qualifications

  • Highly proactive and self-directed
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and efficient
  • Gregarious yet respectful of a subdued household environment
  • Comfortable working independently with minimal oversight
  • Intellectually curious with outside interests or hobbies
  • Seeking a long-term, stable role

Requirements

  • Prior experience as a Family Assistant or Household Manager in a private home
  • Fluent English speaker
  • CPR certified
  • Comfortable with dogs and cats
  • Legally authorized to work in the U.S.
  • W-2 employment
  • COVID vaccination required
  • Annual flu shot required
  • Swimming not required
  • Foreign language skills a plus

Salary and Benefits

  • $75,000–$110,000, DOE
  • Guaranteed hours
