Overview

A private, respectful, and animal-loving couple in Sag Harbor, NY is seeking a ROTA Housekeeper/Pet Nanny to join their household in a long-term role. This position is ideal for a highly responsible, mature, and compassionate professional who thrives working independently, takes pride in maintaining a tidy home, and has a genuine love of animals.

The family travels frequently (1–3 times per month), and during those periods the housekeeper will live in and fully manage the household — including housekeeping, pet care, and light household management. When the family is in residence, the housekeeper will be off duty (with the exception of occasional administrative tasks). This role offers long stretches of downtime, balanced with periods of being at the home 24/7 while the principals are away.

The family values loyalty, maturity, self-sufficiency, and hopes to find someone who will become a trusted, long-term partner in running their home.

Schedule

  • Hybrid ROTA model:
    • On-duty (live-in): Whenever the family is traveling (1–3 times per month, trips typically 3-9 days in duration, may go up to 12 days on occasion)
    • Advance notice: Travel dates provided with a minimum of 3 days’ notice, though rare occasions may be as little as 24 hours
    • Off-duty: When the family is in residence (equal time off to time worked, minimum)
  • Possibility of limited travel support to prepare another property in advance of family arrival

Responsibilities

Housekeeping & Household Maintenance

  • Daily upkeep of a tidy, well-maintained home (cleaning, vacuuming, mopping, laundry, ironing, linens)
  • Manage household inventories, grocery shopping, and light errands
  • Oversee household systems and schedule maintenance appointments
  • Maintain outdoor areas (patio, walkways)

Pet Care

  • Provide daily care for 4 dogs, 2 cats, and 3 birds (feeding, walking, cleaning, general oversight)
  • Ensure animals are safe, healthy, and loved — compassion is essential
  • Assist with occasional foster animals as needed

Property Management

  • Act as sole point of responsibility when principals are away — managing phone calls, deliveries, and basic property oversight
  • Coordinate with principals and support with light household management tasks

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in a private household as a housekeeper, executive housekeeper, house manager, or similar role
  • Strong background in pet care (dogs and cats required; bird experience a plus)
  • Confident working independently, self-directed, and proactive in anticipating needs
  • Valid driver’s license with clean record
  • Local candidates from NY/NJ/CT/Philly strongly preferred; fly-in/fly-out considered for the right fit

Requirements

  • Able to live in while working and commit to a ROTA-style schedule
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with light household management experience
  • Comfortable working in a quiet, rural setting
  • Able to work some holidays, family is usually home on Thanksgiving and Christmas but typically travels on Easter and New Years
  • Legally authorized to work in the U.S.

Salary and Benefits

  • $90,000–$115,000+ DOE
