Overview

A lovely family currently based in Locust Valley, Long Island, is seeking a weekend live-in (during shifts) nanny/housekeeper. The primary care is for a 4-year-old boy, but there are two older daughters in the home.  The family will be based on the Upper East Side of NYC next spring/summer. The candidate can be based in NYC for now, and the family will pay for the commute to Locust Valley. The schedule will be: arriving Friday evening, Saturday 7am to 7pm, and Sunday 7am to 5/6pm. Flexibility with exact hours is required, and a guarantee of 20 hours per weekend will be given. The accommodations provided are a bedroom ensuite in Locust Valley and a bedroom ensuite with a small kitchenette in NYC.

Responsibilities

Include, but are not limited to:

 

Childcare

  • Looking after all childcare requirements, including dressing, meals, homework, bath time, bedtime, etc.
  • Efficiently managing weekend schedules
  • Organizing play dates, activities, and outings
  • Disciplining the children when appropriate in a manner consistent with the parents’ philosophy
  • Teaching and promoting excellent manners
  • Knowing when to step in and step out
  • Restocking necessary childcare items
  •  

Household Cleaning/Day-to-Day Management

  • Cleaning and tidying throughout the house: vacuuming, mopping, dusting and wiping surfaces, cleaning bathrooms, wiping windows, etc.
  • Looking after the plants and flowers throughout the property
  • Liaise with the executive assistant/family office as needed
  • Report damage, stains, burnt-out bulbs, or unusual activity to the executive assistant/family office
  • Assisting during events (birthdays and special occasions)

Supplies

  • Ordering and shopping for supplies and toiletries as needed
  • Recording and filing petty cash and credit card receipts efficiently

Mail/Deliveries

  • Sorting mail and opening
  • Unpacking and putting away household items

Laundry & Clothing Care

  • Assist with the laundry, ironing/steaming
  • Organizing dry cleaning as appropriate, and arranging collections and drop-offs (taking to dry cleaners as needed)

Contractors & Vendors

  • Greeting guests, couriers and tradesmen at the door and overseeing appointments when necessary
  • Reporting anything in the home that is not in good working order to the executive assistant/family office

Supporting the Family & Team

  • Ensuring all guests are always well looked after
  • Preparing for family travel, assisting with packing and unpacking
  • Spending weekends in the Hamptons as required by the family
  • Provide basic care for the family dog, including daily feeding, ensuring fresh water is available, letting the dog out for regular bathroom breaks, as well as taking him to vet appointments when required.

Cooking

  • Where required, cooking/preparing simple meals for the family
  • Making snacks for the child.
  • Purchasing groceries and the necessary ingredients for these
  • Tidying the kitchen after meal preparation and ensuring all food prep (i.e. equipment, ingredients, etc.) is stored in the appropriate location and nothing is left out.
  • Minimizing waste and recycling where possible

Requirements

  • Legally able to work within the U.S.
  • Required to be flexible to work between Locust Valley (Long Island) and Manhattan
  • Not required, but a major bonus if the candidate is willing and able to travel domestically
  • Proven similar childcare and housekeeping work experience for a HNW private residence (at least three years)
  • English proficiency (read, write, and speak)
  • Must love children
  • Pet-Friendly - Family has a dog
  • CPR/First Aid certified (willing to get certified)
  • Must know how to swim
  • Bonus if candidate has a valid driver’s license and is comfortable driving (not a requirement, but ideal to have; would have access to a house vehicle)
  • Excellent references
  • Willingness to undergo background checks and sign a non-disclosure agreement

Salary and Benefits

Rate is commensurate with experience.
