Overview

A family of four in the San Francisco area is seeking a private chef to join their family. The schedule will be Monday–Friday, including lunch, served typically 12-1pm, and dinner served at 5:30pm. Occasionally required to work evenings, weekends, or travel to support events. The family is not looking to relocate, so the chef should already be local to the SF area. The position is hiring immediately.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare meals in the Chef’s kitchen located in a neighboring home and transport them to the primary residence for service.
  • Serve daily meals:
    • Lunch: Plated service for two adults.
    • Dinner: Mix of plated and family-style service for two adults and two children.
    • Breakfast: Breakfast preparation for the following day (to be served by caregiving staff).
  • Preparing and serving fresh, high-quality meals for the family
  • Thoughtful menu planning
  • Develop menus for family gatherings and special events, tailoring dishes to meet specific dietary requirements, including Mrs., focusing on protein, fiber, and low saturated fat.
  • Monitor weekly mercury content in seafood (family enjoys fish) to ensure healthy consumption levels.
  • Create a diverse selection of dishes to accommodate all guests.
  • Lead event catering or oversee additional chefs for larger gatherings, ensuring high-quality execution.
  • Maintaining a clean, organized, and functional Chef’s kitchen
  • Manage grocery inventory and pantry stock, ensuring the kitchen is consistently well-supplied.
  • Prioritize using non-toxic tools
  • Sourcing high-quality ingredients, including humanely raised and organic meats, sustainable seafood, and seasonal organic produce
  • Collaboration and adaptability are key to succeeding in this role
  • Source and train additional chefs to cover time off or assist with events, ensuring their menus and tools align with family standards.
  • Collaborate with the Operations team to promptly report and address any kitchen equipment issues.
  • Travel with the family as needed (4–6 weeks per year), including cooking at rental homes or family properties within California, with occasional weekend availability.
  • Prepare treats for children’s school events as requested.
  • Pack to-go lunches for family members when needed.

Requirements

  • Legal to work in the US
  • Already local to the Bay Area - Not looking to relocate anyone
  • Travel with the family as needed (4–6 weeks per year), including cooking at rental homes
  • Must maintain a clean, organized, and professional demeanor in the kitchen.
  • Prior experience cooking for a family, and children
  • Valid and unrestricted California driver’s license.
  • Completion of a satisfactory background check.
  • Up-to-date vaccinations, including COVID-19, with proof provided before the hire date.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively and communicate respectfully with all team members, with the goal of co-creating a calm and peaceful environment for the family and staff.

Salary and Benefits

The family is offering a competitive hourly rate of $100/hr.
