Overview

A loving family newly arrived in FoxHall/Phillips Park area of Washington, DC, seeks an exceptional live-out 3-day weekend nanny.  The usual schedule will be Friday through Sunday, 7am-8pm with some evening support also needed at times.  The family travel regularly, so please be open to occasional domestic and international trips.

Responsibilities

In this position, you will support two bright and kind children: a 6-year-old girl who is independent and loves books, and a curious, easygoing 3-year-old boy.  The family are new to the area and so someone familiar with their neighbourhood and everything that Washington DC has to offer children would be appreciated!  Duties will include:
  • Supporting the health, well-being, and happiness of the two gorgeous children
  • Some proxy parenting (including managing the lives and schedules of the children), as the parents have demanding careers that may involve some travel, last minute plans and occasional entertaining.
  • Helping with the morning and evening routines
  • Accompanying the children to activities, play-dates, appointments and outings
  • Coordinating schedules for naps and meals, activities, and travel
  • Laundry and ironing relating to the children
  • Creating a positive and engaging environment that fosters independence, promotes good manners and respectful boundaries, and instils values of responsibility

Requirements

The family would love to find a nanny who takes initiative, plans engaging activities for the children, and partners seamlessly with both parents.  Familiarity with a Montessori approach would be a bonus, and the nanny should:
  • Have an understanding of behavioural milestones and development
  • Be able to engage with the children at their level, and encourage learning through play and exploration
  • Have considerable experience in a similar role and bring a positive, 'can-do' mindset, with a kind, considerate approach to childcare
  • Be happy to pitch-in and support the family wherever needed
  • Be super organised, full of initiative, and able to plan ahead
  • Have a valid US passport, work authorisation or green card and be able to travel with the family
  • Be comfortable in both a shared-care and sole charge situation, as well as with overnight care and proxy-parenting

Salary and Benefits

  • From $40/hr, depending on experience
  • Industry standard PTO, sick pay etc
