Overview

A wonderful family residing in Pitkin County, CO with two children (6 & 9) is seeking a full-time experienced Nanny with availability for heavy international and domestic travel. A typical schedule is 40-50 hours per week; flexibility is required for evenings, holidays and during travel when needed. Please note that the family currently has a nanny and is looking for an additional nanny to join their household.

 

The ideal candidate is proactive, caring, organized, active, engaging and has a passion for early childhood education and development. Candidate must have valid passport and an interest in extensive travel. The family lives in Colorado and spends time in other residences located in Switzerland and St Thomas. Housing will be

provided in Colorado, with alternative lodging provided at all other locations. Position also includes general and basic housekeeping and cooking related to care for the children.

 

Responsibilities

  • Provide developmentally appropriate games and activities, engaging projects and crafts at home and schedule/plan fun outings and events based on children’s skills and interests.
  • Support academic, social, and emotional development of children under the direction of and in collaboration with the therapeutic team, through: working with behavior providers and teachers to understand children’s current skills and how to best support their learning
  • Remain calm if children aggress towards the candidate or others, and be willing to support the children in learning alternative ways to express their needs
  • Supporting children in understanding and expressing their emotions
  • Help children develop healthy coping skills for dealing with difficult emotions
  • Teaching children to communicate and advocate for themselves
  • Support social skills such as turn-taking/sharing, compromise, conflict resolution, problem solving and engaging cooperatively with others
  • Teach and support learning of reading, writing, and math skills, team, etc.
  • Ensure effective exposure of language to the children using reading and speaking
  • Responsible for housekeeping duties relating to the children, including positively facilitating children’s age-appropriate participation in daily housekeeping routines (e.g., washing dishes after meals, tidying playroom and bedroom, assisting with the child’s laundry, packing for trips, etc.)
  • Responsible for the general hygiene of children and increasing children’s age-appropriate independence and participation in hygiene routines
  • Responsible for organizational projects relating to children (e.g., taking toys and clothing to donate, rotating clothes seasonally, rotating books and toys quarterly or biannually, etc.), ensuring a tidy and organized environment.
  •  Prepare and pack for all children’s travel needs, including but not limited to:Preparing for long travel and wait times with planned activities and games, proactively identifying how to teach and maintain skills during travel and difficult situations, and understand children’s strengths and needs to be prepared to help them through times of challenging behavior.
  • Packing all necessary items (i.e., clothes, outdoor gear, hygiene supplies, comfort stuffed animals/blankets, etc.) and travel bag/entertainment/food/preferred activities and games for long travel and wait times//etc.
  • Research/plan activities based on children’s skills and interests at the destination, and ensure appropriate gear is available at other residences, hotel or resort.
  • Transport children to and from scheduled activities, appointments, outings, etc.
  •  Meal planning and preparing fresh and healthy meals for and with children to support healthy long-term eating habits
  • Support teaching and reinforcement of manners and other social skills
  • Diligent team player and willing to work collaboratively with Family
  • Maintain strict confidentiality about all aspects of the Family
  • Assist Family with other errands/duties outside of the responsibilities with children (i.e.,grocery shopping, tidying kitchen, etc.)

 

Qualifications

  • Nurturing, cheerful, and enthusiastic individual who loves working with children.
  • Flexible – can adjust to the family’s travel schedule and personal/professional commitments.
  • Creative – enjoys identifying opportunities to develop children’s knowledge and overall experiences
  • Strong communication skills
  • Interest in travel
  • Someone proactive, experienced, and responsible (understands his/her duties).

Requirements

  • Childcare-related qualification is essential, as well as strong knowledge and experience with special education. Experience with self-directed learning and working with ADHD/ASD children is a plus.
  • Lifelong learner open to learning new ways to support children
  • Ability to travel for extended periods of time
  • Experience traveling with children
  • Extreme flexibility to stay for evening engagements, overnights, and other commitments when needed
  • Fluency in English is essential, and additional languages a plus.
  • Ability to provide developmentally appropriate games and activities, engaging projects and crafts at home, and schedule/plan fun outings and events
  • Driver’s license and clean driving record; must obtain a Colorado driver’s license after hire.
  • USA passport or Permanent resident holder (EU passport holder is beneficial)
  • Must be able to swim and supervise children during swimming activities; physically fit for the demands of traveling and managing children’s activities.
  • CPR and First Aid certification
  • Organizational skills and multi-tasking abilities
  • Comfortable planning and preparing a variety of healthy meals and snacks for children

Salary and Benefits

  • Full-time with two days off; required to work a minimum of 40 hours per week, with OT paid for time over 40 hours or if required to work during holidays. Flexibility with the schedule is provided there is coordination and approval by the family.
  • Relocation assistance provided within an approved range by family, details to be discussed during the interview process (for final candidates).
  • Colorado housing provided by family, live-in or condo close to the residence. Housing will be determined on a case-by-case basis. Note that when the parents travel, the nanny will be required to stay at the residence.
