Overview

A growing family in Brooklyn is seeking a child-friendly part-time housekeeper for their 5-story brownstone, starting as soon as a suitable match is found. The family are expecting their second child at the end of the Summer, and will guarantee 2 x full days per week - a third day will be considered for the right candidate, if this is preferred. The schedule will typically be 8 hours per day (i.e. 16 hours per week), and the 2-3 days will ideally fall on 2 week days on Monday through Thursday (not on Friday), with an additional day Sunday if the candidate prefers and is open to providing light childcare that day.

The property includes 5-bedrooms and 7-bathrooms, and the floors, ascending, are: i) basement, ii) den & guest room/office, iii) living room & kitchen, iv) children's bedrooms, laundry room, and playroom, v) primary bedroom and second office, vi) roof (almost entirely outdoor space).

Responsibilities

  • Housekeeping, deep cleaning, and general interior care
  • Laundering of clothes and linens; pressing/steaming as needed
  • Procuring and managing inventory of household supplies
  • Occasional cleaning of outdoor kitchen and outdoor furniture
  • Sending out clothes to dry cleaner and receiving them
  • Very basic food prep (e.g. washing and cutting fruit to store for kids, washing lettuce to store for salads, etc.)
  • Candidates must be comfortable climbing lots of stairs (with baby gates) in six-story brownstone
  • Candidates must be comfortable adhering to specific cleaning protocols, including but not limited to only using very mild soap and water to clean sensitive Carrara marble (in the kitchen and bathrooms), using a Swiffer for minimal wetness and Dawn or Bona for the wood floors (which cannot be mopped or soaked), following maintenance instructions for waterworks faucets and shower-heads so they don't corrode/change color, etc.
  • The family requires the candidate to use primarily natural and non-toxic cleaning supplies (i.e. no bleach except in pre-discussed circumstances like laundering whites), including provided baby-friendly detergent for clothes
  • Ideal candidate would be comfortable providing back-up/relief childcare for their 1.5 year-old (and baby, in due course) - there is a full-time nanny and this will only be in her absence, e.g. if she is sick or otherwise temporarily occupied, or for periods on Sundays during naps or quiet play time while the parents cook or work out

  • Candidates should be organized, e.g. ordering and distributing household goods, such a toilet paper, cleaning supplies, when running low, putting clothes away in an organized manner, and keeping track of when a deeper clean of something like the shower, laundry machine, or oven might be necessary
  • US passport, Green Card or EAC
  • Candidates should be reliable, honest, and trustworthy
  • Candidates must be COVID vaccinated, as well as be up to date on Flu/ RSV/Tdap/MMR
