Overview

A warm, thoughtful Brooklyn Heights-based family is seeking a full-time nanny-educator (Psychology/Emotional Development Focused) to care for and support the development of their two children, a girl aged 5 ½ and a boy who is almost 3. The general schedule will be approximately Monday through Friday from 11:30am to 6:30pm, with one later evening per week and flexibility for additional hours and overnights. The ideal candidate will be seeking a long-term position and will have a degree in psychology or child development. Relocation is not being offered; the start date is August 2025.

Responsibilities

 

  • School pickup and structured care through early evening
  • Develop and guide activities that support early education and emotional growth
  • Coordinate playdates, outings, and age-appropriate adventures
  • Support transitions, behavior management, and positive social interactions
  • Light household duties related to the children: laundry, dishes, tidying play areas, organizing supplies
  • Collaborate with parents on routines (e.g. bedtime, nap schedules, screen time limits)
  • Encourage healthy habits, manners, environmental awareness, and community connection
  • Assist in facilitating time with extended family, including grandparents
  • All aspects of full-charge care
  • Incorporate ideas and experience-based activities, and recommendations for the children that are respectful to parental decisions
  • Research age-appropriate activities locally and before travel
  • Always ensure the safety and well-being of the children
  • Confidently plan activities that support speech, motor, and emotional development
  • Follow and incorporate PCIT & OT skills

Qualifications

  • Nurturing, emotionally resilient caregiver who brings professionalism, thoughtfulness, and educational insight into the home.
  • Unflappable, grounded, authoritative (not authoritarian), and able to manage complex behavior without taking things personally
  • Fun, creative, and energetic
  • Ability to be a partner in emotional development and learning, supporting both children through play, structure, and compassionate boundaries.
  • Comfortable working alongside a work-from-home parent — knowing when to collaborate, when to step back, and when to jump
  • Trustworthy, kind, and dependable
  • Experienced with children who don’t have formal diagnoses but benefit from structure and developmental support
  • Comfortable navigating the city with children
  • Team player with positive attitude

Requirements

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree (minimum), ideally in Psychology, Child Development, or Education
  • Experience with behavioral and emotional support in children aged 2–6
  • English fluency required; second language a plus
  • Valid Driver’s License strongly preferred
  • Confident swimmer
  • Comfortable with a large dog (friendly and sweet St. Bernard)
  • Willingness to adapt to changing family needs with flexibility and grace
  • Flexible to work occasional date nights, overnights, and travel (domestic and international), including weekends at the family’s home upstate
  • No excessive screen time use or unprofessional social media presence
  • Authorized to work in the U.S

Salary and Benefits

 

The family is offering $40 to $50 per hour DOE.
