Overview

A kind family of 4 in Los Gatos, CA is seeking a superlative part-time chef. The family is comprised of two adult parents and two teenagers. The proposed schedule is 2-3 dinners a week and can be either Monday, Tuesday, Thursday; Monday, Wednesday, Thursday; or Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday. The chef would shop, meal prep, and cook starting in the mid or late afternoon for a 7pm dinnertime and can leave after dinner is served and kitchen is cleaned up. If chef chooses not to shop for this role, hours may be less. They eat family style and do not need the chef to directly serve food on plates or to clear the dinner table after them. The chef will cook in a separate kitchen than the main kitchen; however, it is a fantastic kitchen with heavy-duty burners, professional oven, flat iron griddle, etc. The candidate to hire will report to the House Manager. The role starts as soon as a great fit is found!

Responsibilities

  • Menu planning for 2-3 dinners/week for 4 people on average but sometimes it may be 3 or 5 people
  • Food shopping for the planned meals or advise House Manager of grocery items that are needed
  • Prepping and cooking the dinners
  • Cleaning up kitchen once finished
  • Potential to cook for events or dinner parties with advanced notice that the family hosts if all goes excellent and the chef wants to

Requirements

  • A chef who can cook a variety of meals deliciously. Some ethnic cooking they enjoy and meals they prefer are Indian food, Vietnamese (pho), Italian dishes (risotto), but heavy carbohydrate meals are at a limit (such as heavy pastas). The family eats chicken and beef but one member of the family would prefer tofu or Portabella mushroom when steak specifically is cooked for everyone else. No allergies but one member of the family is diabetic which is why there is more of a limit on heavy carbohydrates. One member of the family does not prefer casseroles but the others do so this dish could be made when the one family member won't be in attendance at dinner. They enjoy high quality good food and are not super picky overall.

Salary and Benefits

  • $85-110/hour depending on experience and repertoire
