Overview

A warm, young family in Tribeca/Battery Park is seeking a part-time Cook to join their household. The family has two young children (ages 4 and under) and a friendly Golden Retriever. The mother is present and hands-on in the home; this role is focused on food preparation and household kitchen support, with occasional light household assistance as needed. The ideal candidate will be proactive, organized, and efficient, with a warm and calm presence. This is a casual yet professional household, and the family values kindness, discretion, and excellent communication.

Responsibilities

  • 20–24 hours per week (with the option to expand to 30 hours if open to light additional duties).

  • Typical schedule: 3 days 8am–3pm or 4 days 8am–1pm; family can adjust slightly for the right fit.

  • Occasional evening babysitting or additional coverage (TBD by mutual agreement).

  • Weekend work not required.

  • Prepare a weekly menu in collaboration with the mother.

  • Cook wholesome, balanced meals and snacks for the family (breakfast, lunch, dinner).

  • Grocery shop 2–3 times per week, aiming for efficient trips covering multiple days’ meals.

  • Maintain pantry and refrigerator staples (bread, eggs, milk, snacks, paper goods, cleaning supplies).

  • Wash and prep fruits and vegetables (family prefers natural methods such as baking soda and vinegar).

  • Keep the kitchen tidy and sanitary:

    • Load/unload dishwasher

    • Clean counters, tables, highchairs, and sweep crumbs

    • Empty trash/recycling daily

    • Organize fridge/pantry and discard expired items

  • Occasionally prepare additional dishes for visiting family or friends.

  • On occasion, assist with light household tasks such as folding laundry, tidying play areas, or briefly supervising a child if the mother steps out.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience cooking wholesome, balanced meals (family prefers hearty, traditional dishes with lean proteins, vegetables, and whole foods).

  • Must be mindful of food sensitivities (no shellfish, low-spice household, no processed foods or dyes).

  • Familiarity with NYT recipes is a plus!
  • Proactive and organized, able to plan ahead and manage time efficiently.

  • Warm, thoughtful, and self-aware personality.

  • Excellent communication skills and comfort working alongside a present parent.

  • Comfortable around young children and dogs.

Salary and Benefits

  • $35–40/hour DOE

  • PTO: 5 sick days annually, 5 vacation days per 6 months worked, plus major holidays off

  • Flexibility to swap workdays with advance notice
