A client is seeking a live-out companion for her 79-year-old Mother on the Upper West Side. The proposed schedule is Wednesday through Sunday or Friday through Tuesday as weekend care is essential. The hours are 10:30am-7pm. This role does involve some light housekeeping and meal prepping for the Mother. The role starts immediately.

• The Mother has chronic and acute cancer, however, this role does not involve medical care as she is self-sufficient for the most part. Being kind, loving, gracious, a good conversationalist, and efficient is desired for this role. This role is not a good fit for someone who wants to watch television during the day or be laid-back and inefficient; this role is for someone who can bring light and energy into the home and be kind
• Straightening up the home
• Making meals such as toast and poached egg or a lovely salad, encouraging mealtimes and eating ("It’s time to eat lunch and here is your beautiful lunch”) but not talking down to the principal to eat. Nice cooking is desired
• Being really attentive to her, such as getting her water; little things that make someone feel cared about and that the companion is there to work and not just sit back and check in on her at times. Being considerate about her needs
• She is hard of hearing so having an excellent command of the English language in communication is very important; being clear in enunciation
• There is a lovely sweet dog who is 70 lbs. and a Labradoodle; it would be a strong bonus if the candidate to hire can walk the dog nearby at Riverside Park twice a day (morning and before shift ending)
• No errands really except for perhaps an occasional run to the drugstore to get some medicine; there is a full-time driver who takes her to all medical appointments and the companion will not go to doctor appointments with her but might go in the car with her to the appointments
• Minimal laundry, there is a washer and dryer on premises, but sheets are washed and ironed by the housekeeper
• Making the bed

• Someone who has confidence, attention to detail, and empathy care; not doing the bare minimum
• Not being passive
• Comfortable in an environment navigating different things whilst remaining pleasant and empathetic
• Encompassing a positive energy and personality; the worst is blind indifference, this role is for a warm companion ready to provide care and attention whilst not being overbearing to an independent and smart woman

• The client is open on compensation for this role and candidates will be asked to supply their hourly rate request upon applying that matches the qualifications outlined on the resume; starting at $35+/hour

• 2 weeks PTO (vacation can’t be taken within first 3 months of employment and candidate to hire must provide a minimum of 3 weeks advance notice for vacation requests)

• MetroCard reimbursement

• The client prefers that the candidate to hire can work holidays and take time off on other days when possible

• No healthcare stipend or insurance is offered for this role
