Overview

The private educator will provide specialized educational support and guidance to two children: a 5-year-old and a 3.5-year-old, one of whom are on the autism spectrum. The educator will work closely with the family to create a nurturing and enriching learning environment tailored to the unique needs of the children. Flexibility in scheduling is essential, as the position requires a minimum of 45 hours per week. The educator will collaborate with other professionals and regularly report progress and challenges to the parents to ensure alignment with the family's goals and expectations.

The family will consider relocating a candidate if it is the right fit.  The position can be live-in or live-out. While the primary schedule will be Monday through Friday there will be instances where early mornings, late nights or weekends will be required.  This flexibility is essential to accommodate specific teaching goals or activities that my occur outside standard hours.  However, the focus during this time will be still be on teaching, not nanny related duties.

Responsibilities

Individualized Curriculum Development:

  • Collaborate with the family and any other therapists involved to design a personalized curriculum that aligns with the children’s developmental goals, interests, and sensory preferences.
  • Create engaging and age-appropriate learning materials and activities.

Instruction and Support:

  • Provide one-on-one instruction to enhance communication, social skills, cognitive abilities, and self-regulation.
  • Implement evidence-based teaching strategies, such as Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), visual supports, and positive reinforcement.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Teach and reinforce proper manners, table manners, and social skills.

Behavior Management:

  • Develop and implement behavior intervention plans (BIPs) to address challenging behaviors.
  • Use proactive strategies to prevent meltdowns and promote emotional regulation.

Collaboration:

  • Work closely with other professionals, including occupational therapists, social therapists, psychologists, and other medical or relevant therapists to ensure a holistic approach to the children’s development.
  • Regularly collaborate with parents to provide updates on the children’s progress, discuss any concerns, and align on educational goals and strategies.
  • Participate in regular meetings with parents to adjust the curriculum and approach based on the children’s evolving needs.

Data Collection and Progress Monitoring:

  • Collect data on the children’s progress and adjust teaching methods accordingly.
  • Maintain accurate records and provide detailed progress reports to the parents regularly.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in special education, Early Childhood Education, or a related field.
  • 5-8 years of teaching experience with a minimum of 2 years in private in-home education
  • Need to have experience working 1:1 with a child with Autism 
  • Understanding of sensory processing challenges and strategies to support sensory needs.
  • Certification in Applied Behavior Analysis (BCBA) is a PLUS but not required
  • Excellent teaching skills with the ability to create engaging and educational activities.
  • Outstanding organizational and communication skills.
  • Experience working with autistic children and understanding their unique needs.
  • CPR and First Aid certification is preferred.
  • Must be able to travel with family and children when needed.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
