A private LA-based family seek an experienced full-time, live-out chef. Expect to work 50 or so hours per week usually, however flexibility would be preferred to allow for changing needs and itineraries. Candidates will be preparing lunch and dinner for 2 principals and their four children, all of whom have different dietary requirements – you will need to be comfortable and confident preparing a variety of styles including keto, vegetarian and vegan, gluten and egg-free etc.
The ideal candidate has at least 3-5 years experience working in fully staffed households and with preparing a variety of cuisines including (but not limited to) Mexican, British, Italian, and Japanese. You will be happy to work with the family in planning the week’s meals, comfortable learning their favourite family recipes and flexible enough to cater for last minute changes. The role will include provisioning (F&B) and organising the kitchen, including doing the clearing up after cooking, doing regular inventories and ensuring adequate stock levels of all pantry and perishable items, and you will be responsible for training the housekeepers in preparing and serving breakfast and working with the butler to ensure a smooth meal service. The family appreciate fresh, seasonal, organic food so please be passionate about sourcing the finest ingredients and preparing delicious, healthy and beautifully presented meals. You will also be responsible for the budget, ensuring value for money and conscious of reducing wastage. Someone who demonstrates initiative but who is equally happy to prepare the family favourites will do well in this role, as will someone who enjoys baking items that appeal to children. There may be some low-key weekend entertaining with family and friends, to include BBQs or a Thanksgiving dinner, for example, so please be experienced at catering for up to 20 people.
Candidates must be team players and hands-on, happy to serve if required and to take ownership of the kitchen, keeping it meticulously clean and hygienic. Knowledge of European and British cuisine is essential, experience working in Europe or preferably the UK would be a bonus.
